Waverley Preparatory School and Day Nursery

'Best in Berkshire' - 12 Years and counting..!

Also ranked number 1 in the Reading and Wokingham area

Ranked 'Best in Berkshire':

We are proud to announce that Waverley has achieved another superb ranking in the National Prep School league tables. The school is now ranked 'Best in Berkshire' being the only school in Berkshire to have consistently appeared in the Times Top 100 rankings for 12 consecutive years. Our ranking is based on the most recently issued league tables - published in January 2023.

The Sunday Times published its annual ranking of Prep and Junior Schools in January 2023 and Waverley yet again featured high in the rankings, in 33rd place.

No.1 in the Wokingham, Reading and Newbury Area:

Waverley is thrilled that we remain the top ranked primary and Prep School in the Wokingham, Reading and Newbury area.

33rd in the UK:

We are also delighted to share the news that Waverley has placed 55th this year. Rankings are based on the academic performance of our Year 6 cohort. There are 2,026 Prep Schools and over 18,000 junior schools in the UK. This ranking is also based on the most recently issued league tables which were published in November 2020.

How the Rankings are Calculated:

Our ranking is based on the academic performance of our Year 6 pupils - using their SATS results. The Times has calculated the January 2023 rankings using the average SATS results of all Year 6 Prep and primary schools in the UK between 2019 and 2021 together with latest SATS results from 2022. There are 2,026 Prep Schools and over 18,000 junior schools in the UK - meaning that Waverley's impressive ranking of 33rd is out of a total of over 20,000 schools.

The results of our Year Six pupils are ranked against other Prep schools, both single sex and also selective, and reflect high achievement at "Level Five" which is in excess of national expectations for this age group.

Although not considered by the Times Top 100 Prep Schools, our results at Level Six were also outstanding and show the stretch and challenge our pupils are able to undertake as part of our innovative curriculum.

Our Ethos:

Our school is a modern school which is a combination of traditional and modern teaching methods.  We are also proud to maintain single form entry with an average of only 21 in each year. We strongly believe that this combination is the best way of ensuring that all our pupils realise their full potential. We are proud to see that this ethos consistently produces proven results as demonstrated in our Times ranking and also in the knowledge that last year, all our Year 6 pupils were offered a place at their chosen Secondary School.
