Speech and Drama

Speech and Drama is offered as an extra-curricular activity to children in our Foundation class. 

Benefits of Speech and Drama

Waverley's Speech and Drama classes are the ideal way to build your child's self-confidence. Our classes help children express themselves, encourage them to think outside the box and engage with other children. Classes are split into small groups allowing children to build their confidence with their peers. Children are encouraged to use their imagination and be lead to express themselves through their bodies and movement. Drama also provides children with opportunities to experience the world from different perspectives other than their own through speech, movement and mime. Speech and Drama can also play a supporting role in speech delays and impediments by learning about voice projection and correct pronunciation, which can help a child to become confident when using communication and language. 

Progressing to Speech and Drama in School

Our Foundation Speech and Drama lessons prepare children for school where they will learn to poetry and take part in external examinations. 

What Do We Do in Speech and Drama

The children participate in vocal activities and games. This builds listening and attention skills, teaches the children to follow instructions and respond to questions when asked. The children also learn tongue twisters which help to improve communication, language and pronunciation. 

 Sessions and Fees

Children participate in a weekly 30 minute session and we offer 10 sessions each term. There is an additional charge for children attending Speech and Drama. Please consult our fees section for our current Speech and Drama fees by clicking here and consulting the Extra-Curricular section. 

Meet Mrs Adams - our Speech and Drama Teacher

Mrs Adams, our Speech and Drama teacher, has been a member of the Waverley staff for over 10 years. She is passionate about the benefits of Speech and Drama to make learning fun, dynamic and confidence-building.
